Daughter was blown away by Heidi's love for a goat, boyfriend was busy making his well famous mint tea, and I was trying to figure out my next move. I had already searched all the parfumerie bruxeloise, my coiffeuse's drawer was packed with any kind of super expensive sample, and I was stuck. 

How to be natural without turning Amish? That is: how to achieve that "effortlessly beautiful" look? 

I turned to YouTube for help, and had to stare hopelessly to thousands of outfit of the day, of the night, of the weekend and in between, first date make up, make up for college and make up for work, tags e what’s in my bag, hauls e giveaways, done by modern barkers who praise miraculous potions. 

After signing up to 13 different channels of self-crowned guru and having splurged on the whole collection Les fleurs d'été, I still could not get it; and I just wanted to have Vanessa Paradis' allure, teeth aside.

Lost in the YouTube jungle, I found myself on a oasis, better known as Lisa Eldridge's channel. I grabbed morning rose and started painting my nails, 'cos I knew I would not have moved for a while.

Uber famous make-up artist covered in Chanel, she is a Coco in a sea full of Fran (The Nanny) wannabes. Apparently she goes by the motto k.i.s.s., i.e. keep it simple stupid, and you already want to hug her. As english and sophisticated as she could possibly be, she virtually reaches out for you, and opens her doors. There are sooo many different videos to choose from, such as some that take you through the history of make-up, which show some vintage pieces that make you all giggly - explaining to boyfriend why you do that is all a different topic. 

The products that she uses go from incredibly expensive brushes to high street foundations, which makes her even more adorable. You look at her, and anything seems possible, like they always told me in Delhi, and you swear to yourself you'll never have another guru. At least on YouTube.

To watch again and again with your Moleskine at hand, to have a nice little list to send to Santa, to be inspired and not to drown in bleach and mint green nail polish that someone loooove loooove loooove.

Less is more. One love is enough.

La figlia faceva il tifo per Heidi che raccoglieva erbe speciali per Fiocco di Neve, il fidanzato preparava il suo rinomato tea alla menta, e io cercavo di capire in che direzione andare. Avevo battuto tutte le profumerie bruxelloise, il cassetto della coiffeuse era pieno di campioncini di costosissime creme e io non riuscivo a prendere una decisione.

Cosa ci si mette sulla faccia nei caldi giorni d’estate, per avere quell’aria da fiori di campo e acqua di fonte, senza tirare all’Amish? Ovvero: come si può sembrare effortless beautiful?

Con 13 iscrizioni a canali di autoincoronati guru e tutta la nuova collezione Les fleurs d’été al mio attivo, non avevo ancora ben capito in che modo sarei riuscita ad avere l’allure di Vanessa Paradis, denti a parte.

Saltando di tag in tag, mi sono ritrovata sul sito di Lisa Eldridge, bellissima make up artist di età indefinibile, e ho capito che potevo stendere la seconda mano di morning rose sulle mie unghie, perché sarebbero state lontane dalla tastiera per un po’.

Famosissima truccatrice di Chanel ingioiellata, è un’isola felice tra tante – troppe Tata Francesca wannabes. Pare che il suo motto sia k.i.s.s., ovvero keep it simple stupid, e solo questo vale una benedizione. Inglese e con un’aria molto chic, ti tende virtualmente la mano e ti apre il suo studio. Si passa da video semplici ad altri di storia del make up, con pezzi vintage degni di risolini ed esclamazioni di stupore. 

I prodotti che utilizza sono di tutti i tipi, da introvabili pennelli a marche da grande magazzino, il che la rende ancora più adorabile. Ti sembra tutto fattibile, a osservare quelle sapienti mani, e giuri a te stessa che non avrai mai altro guru all’infuori di lei. Per lo meno su YouTube.

Da guardare e riguardare con taccuino alla mano per segnarsi i must have da chiedere a Babbo Natale, per avere idee e dettagliate spiegazioni e per non sentirsi troppo sole in un mare di acqua ossigenata e smalti verde menta che qualcuna loooove loooove loooove.
